Tacos, Oil & The Holy Spirit

Last week when my pastor asked me to deliver a message on a specific symbol of the Holy Spirit, I immediately accepted. In my hunger for opportunities to teach God’s Word, I’ll basically accept anything.

After talking it over, we decided that I’d tackle the topic of oil and within 24 hours, I was regretting the commitment. Preaching on something you’re passionate about is one thing, but an assigned topic is another. Sometimes you have to find the thread of personal interest in the topic. You have to search hard for inspiration. I studied and studied, and took me a few days to find it, but I found it. What I saw in scripture was a bit different than what I’ve heard in my lifetime, and I suddenly got pretty excited about delivering it to my friends and family at Life Fellowship.

I have a long history of struggling with what it means to be pentecostal. I also have a personal commitment to being nothing but myself when I preach. No gimmicks, no screaming, no acting. I’ve learned to embrace my goofiness. So when I talk about the topic of the Holy Spirit, it may be a little rough. Might even be a little too honest, but it was my honor to teach a little on what it means to be “Annointed by the Holy Spirit.”
